Will you be ready to enter the workforce when you graduate?
Check out what Maryland businesses said in a 2001 survey:
- 60 percent of companies said they need better written communication skills than they see in most job applicants. 57 percent said the same thing about problem-solving skills.
- 74 percent said that everyone they hire must have basic computer skills.
- Nearly half said they check the high school records of job applicants. So there's close to a 50-50 chance that they'll check yours.
How can you prepare yourself?

In some districts, it’s up to you to decide your course of study and which school you’ll go to, so make sure you’re in the right one. For you guys in Baltimore City, for example, are you interested in criminal justice? Check out Walbrook. Medicine? Dunbar. Welding? Mergenthaler.
Look at your school district’s website or talk to your school counselor about what your district has available to get you closer to your dream career.
